Breakfast sammys from Starbucks, Rita’s shaved ice with custard, gummy bears, sodas, and alcohol – our vices. And they’re no longer on this life’s menu.
My boyfriend Mark and I started the Keto diet. Yes, we bought into the trend before knowing it was one.
Feeling sorry for myself binging YouTube videos and Netflix with a bottle of vodka every lonely night made me feel better. But that got a bit out of control, so the new thing was two bottles of wine every work night because it was a “shitty day”.
WTF!? I know what you’re thinking…
But now, there’s Keto. Yup, a new “trendy diet”. Mark & I didn’t even know it was a trend, tbh, until the Starbucks guy corrected my order when I asked if Brevé and Heavy Cream are the same. “Nope, if you’re on Keto, it’s the heavy cream you want.”
Anyways… how we started this thing was by Googling “Keto Meal Plans” (or something similar to that). We didn’t know much about this diet until we read up more on it as we went. All we knew was it was time for a diet. We came across this website called ‘Diet Doctor‘ and they had a FREE, yes FREE 14-day meal plan. The better part was, after this 14-day plan was over, there’s an endless amount of recipes. So yes, there’s no more pre-set calendar, but you can pick and choose your own recipes. This helps you learn even more about the diet and counting carbs, protein, cal, and most importantly, fat.
The first week weirded us out a bit. Drinking sticks of butter and dipping our smoked salmon in pure, fatty mayo, was a bit frightening. BUT we got used to it once our bodies were begging us for something sweet. Getting through the first 4-5 days was tough, but the recipes are super tasty and filled us up. It was confusing knowing how much exactly to eat. It was known we had to stay between 20 and 30 carbs a day, but all we were going off of were the recipes from the FREE 14-day meal plan. We even got the pee sticks to make sure our bodies were going into ketosis. Being competitive, this made things even more fun.
Here’s our first week of Keto in a calendar. Again, everything was pulled from the Diet Doctor’s FREE 14-day meal plan.
